Service Availability
Lumen Service Availability API provides location-based network and service detail so customers and partners can determine if Lumen data services are available at a given address.
Beta ~
Lumen Service Availability API provides location-based network and service detail so customers and partners can qualify if Lumen data services are available at a given address. The current Beta version of Service Availability is approved for qualifying Dedicated Internet Access, Wavelength, Ethernet Private Line, and TDM services for North American locations only. Future releases will expand functionality to include additional regions and service types.
Existing Lumen customers and business partners can gain access to the Service Availability API upon request. APIs and associated technology should be used by someone familiar with API interfaces, REST, and JSON. Currently, the Beta version is for restricted use only. Contact your Lumen account team for more information.
The Service Availability API is intended as a fast, early validation in the quote-to-order flow. The API allows users to make calls from their own application to determine the On-Net or Off-Net network status of locations and types of services that may be available. Additional data points help the user decide if they wish to proceed to price and quote the locations.
The API is a single service to retrieve availability information on all Lumen services. The Beta version has been approved for Dedicated Internet Access, Wavelength, Ethernet Private Line, and TDM services in North America. The API will be expanded to include all services on the Lumen Platform per release schedules.
APIs help businesses more efficiently evaluate and procure Lumen services:
- Increased Efficiency: Self-service functionality removes the need to call, email, or log orders one-by-one through a portal. APIs allow you to consume Lumen services your way.
- Digital Delivery: Automate interactions, increase responsiveness, and reduce time to delivery, especially for customers who deal with hundreds of locations at a time.
- Accelerate Digital Transformation: APIs enable customers to process transactions through their chosen systems and get deeper insights into their services. APIs are the ultimate customer-centric solution allowing customers to consume information in the way that best suits their business.
- Register user.
- Create applications under My Apps where you can create Sandbox and Production facing apps.
- Enroll in Quoting APIs. Contact your account representative or use the Contact Us form to obtain an enrollment form.
- Approved. Once Lumen completes your enrollment your credentials will move to approved status.
- Setup authorization. Using the Navigation bar go to Authorization / Authentication for more information on setting up authorization.
- Make your first call. Using the Navigation bar go to Documentation/Specification
Use the Navigation bar to find OAS 3.0 (Swagger) documentation, as well as important information for setting up authorization, and more.
Lumen APIs use RESTful design, JSON-encoded response with standard OAuth 2 Authorization protocols.

Service Availability API is designed to provide fast responses on multiple locations in a single call so users can quickly determine if they with to proceed to price request. This API is designed to work with Quoting V4 APIs. Service Availability is designed to be a quick, early validation of Lumen services. You must continue to price request and order to receive final confirmation of Lumen products.
- Maximum 100 addresses per API request
- To achieve faster response times use Site ID (PL ID) rather than address
The following guide provides and overview and important details on Service Availability. Please refer to the documentation and specification section for complete API documentation.
Beta:
Service Availability is in beta release and currently supporting North American locations for Dedicated Internet Access, Wavelength, Ethernet Private Line and TDM products. Future releases will enhance locations, products, and functionality.
Network Status
- On-Net: Fiber is built to or very near the location. Little or no construction is expected.
- Off-Net: This location cannot be qualified as on-net. The location may be in territory, but fiber is not near, or cannot be accessed. Location maybe out of territory and could use another provider's access to the building.
About Near-Net
Lumen does not officially define “near-net status” but we have provided several data points in the call to help partners and customers identify near-net based on your own business rules.
- In LEC territory but not Fiber Fed:
- lecFootprint = “true” and FiberFedLec = “false”
- Fiber is not present at the location, but may be near a fiber network.
- Distance from Fiber:
- Lumen is continuing to build out data to provide route distance to fiber for locations. Null data means we do not yet have distance data on this site available through the Service Availability request. Please contact your account representative if you require more proximity information on a site.
- Wire Center Island Market:
- wireCenterIslandMarket = “true”
- The wire center is in territory, but there is no Lumen services at that wire center.
Multiple Known Addresses
Service availability API will return network status and location information based on the primary location. In some cases there are more than one address associated with a primary ID (multiple buildings or multiple units). When this is the case multipleKnownAddresses = true to indicate that further investigation on the demarcation may be required when making a price request.
Products
The Product Family that is available at a location is provided in the API response (e.g. Ethernet) along with the speeds capable at the location. This does not represent the actual Lumen product and configuration that can be sold at the location. For product specific information use the Quoting v4 APIs.
Lumen supports the OAuth 2.0 client credentials authorization grant flow for external access by client-side applications.
Only existing Lumen customers can access Voice APIs. Please contact your account manager to begin the enrollment process, or see the Support section for more information. Upon enrollment, you will receive instructions on how to get started. Once your application is approved you can go to Using OAuth 2.0 for detailed steps on getting a Bearer token using basic authorization base64 encoding.

Minor version changes are backwards compatible and will be described in the Change Log section.
Major versions are used if changes are not backwards compatible. Major versions are indicated in the API URL such as api.lumen.com/Quoting/v1/. Major versioning will be communicated to API users through the header (where technically feasible) and in the change log. In some cases, Lumen may also email users to inform of deprecation and sunsetting plans.
- Deprecation: API is no longer recommended for use although it may still be operational. Usually, a new version is available.
- Deprecation Date: The date on which the new version is available, and the old version is no longer recommended for use.
- Sunsetting: The API is being shut down as of the sunset date. The API may return error codes or maybe entirely unresponsive. Sometimes referred to as “wholly deprecate”
This API interface is outside of the normal production Lumen controlled functionality. Its usage requires a technical level of knowledge by the end user.
